… but, what the heck does this mean?
Well, that is what I am committed to sharing with you in this blog.
The process of grounding into my purpose around supporting women in the nutrition space didn’t happen overnight. It came through some pretty significant shifts that looked like me breaking free from identities that were not really mine.If this confuses you (I know I would have been rolling my eyes just a couple years ago), let me explain …
Now, I would be fooling you if I were to begin to paint the picture that disconnecting from my old self is rosy and fun. I’ve fallen off and on the wagon with many new habits jumping from one health trend to the next since I was a young teen, always trying to lose a few pounds. I also let myself get caught up on focusing too much on the physical body while inside I wasn’t experiencing joy or able to live in the moment and feel grounded. Ultimately, the desire to control my food (orthorexia), high stress levels and intense early morning workouts lead to me having hypothalamic amenorrhea and ultimately osteoporosis. I suppressed feelings and experiences going back to my childhood that started to surface as an adult, which resulted in negative self-talk, a desire to try to control everything and getting angry with my family when things didn’t go “as planned.” Through the inner work that I’ve done I now recognize that it was thanks to the experiences that I was once embarrassed or ashamed to share, that has led me on the path to be of service to other women. Over time I’ve gained the confidence and mindset needed to break free of my old habits that aren’t serving me and live a life where I feel at peace with myself and can find gratitude every day.
So what did this process look like? It started with making small shifts, first to my diet and exercise (throwing out the fake sugar and butter spray and buying full fat products), going to bed at 10pm and reading nutrition labels, but quickly I started looking inward, reading books and seeing alternative healers, therapists and other specialists that magically appeared at the exact moment that I needed help. The process to begin to discover my true identity is one that I am still on and committed to daily and wanted to share these techniques in the event that they can help you, too. Documenting my triggers (aka losing my temper with my husband or kids). Daily breath work, meditation and gratitude. Connecting to my best and truest self to find peace and happiness (not the outside world).

What I’ve seen and experienced first hand, is that to truly make sustainable change and build new and enjoyable healthy habits, you must go inward and get back in touch with what brings you joy. Yes, you can do a 30-day program or try another band-aid solution to lose a few pounds, but how long do those new habits last before you fall back to your old ways?
It’s so easy to beat ourselves up when we get off track. But what if you could get out of your head, remove the noise and chatter and get back in tune with yourself (like when you were a small child)? It is only when we reach this state of mind that we can easily take action that brings us joy and allows our body to thrive (like moving your body, meditating, meal prep and eating nourishing foods, etc.)
So now, to answer the above question…
A holistic health coach is a supportive and inspirational partner in your life who guides you to more deeply understand what your body is truly trying to tell you so that you can address root causes and allow yourself to live your happiest, healthiest and most authentic life. Health is not solely about the food on your plate or how many fitness classes you logged each week. What I’ve found is that stress, sleep, career and your relationships play a critical role in you feeling amazing in your own skin and experiencing joy each day.To do this, I:

When you start nourishing the body, properly allowing your basic needs to be met, the reality around you does the same.
